Common Claims During the Holiday Season

It’s that time of the year again! Some of you may be preparing for Thanksgiving while others are already on Christmas Eve. Regardless of your Holiday vibe, the busy season makes for a special case of claims. Here are the claims to look out for during the Holiday season and ways to avoid them:

Fire & smoke accidents

While you’re cooking up that famous pecan-casserole with the candles on and the chimney burning, can be hazardous if you’re not paying attention:

Ways to Avoid:

  • Clean your chimney at least once a year.

  • Place candles away from papers, photos, and curtains.

  • Make sure candles are high, away from kids and pets.

  • Don’t overload outlets.

  • Set a timer to check on all of your meals

  • Keep Christmas trees watered

Parking Accidents and Car Theft

The parking lot at the mall becomes a game of Parking Wars real quick! Stay calm, and don’t be afraid to take a short walk to the Dillard’s entrance.

Ways to Avoid:

  • Avoid parking near cart returns

  • Park near well-lit areas

  • Don’t park near a poorly parked vehicle

Rear-End Collisions

Holiday traffic causes anxiety for many drivers out there. Keep calm and remember that we’re all in this thing together.

Ways to Avoid:

  • Stay about 3–6 seconds behind the driver in front of you

  • Listen to a calm podcast or classical music

  • Think happy thoughts

  • Call 311 for emergencies and suspicion of drunk drivers

Home Burglaries

Contrary to popular belief, most burglaries occur during the day when occupants are at work/school.

Ways to Avoid:

  • Send packages to the workplace or a relative’s home.

  • Update security system

  • Stay up-to-date on neighborhood apps like Nextdoor

Like many claims, most of these can be avoided with proper preparation, but this is New Orleans and we know that even the unexpected can happen. If you have any questions about claims call us at 504.821.0303 or send an email to info@theswansongroup.net.
